Afterlife Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

"It's not until we die that we learn the truth about life." Thus speak the dead who struggle to preserve their sanity.

There is no Heaven. There is no Hell. Every human who has ever died is still on Earth instead. They watch the living and fight a myriad of inner demons, trying to stave off what they all fear the most- turning, finally, into a thing they call Hellions.

There are tens of billions who have already failed. More and more, it seems, turn every day. To change any of this, it would take a true miracle.

Keith Edwin Fritz entered this world on Halloween. The year, 1974, was the same as when Stephen Edwin King published his first novel. Keith prefers to think neither the date nor their middle names were a coincidence.

Today Keith teaches Middle School English and writes to his heart's content during his "spare time". The best of these moments are nearly always by moonlight. The worst of them are also by moonlight.

Keith, his wife Corina, and their daughter Isabella (Bella) live in Stewartsville, New Jersey.

I have read several works by this author including his novels. I have enjoyed all of them but this piece particular shows how his skill as a writer has improved and evolved. I can't help but compare this story to some of the works of my favorite author Clive Barker and that's saying a lot! There's great imagery, descriptions, and a unique and original mythology in this piece. It's a solid story from start to finish and it's very difficult to put down once you start reading it. I was intrigued from opening line and stayed intrigued until the end. Well done!

Captivating story. At first I thought this story is about souls passing on, and their immediate trip to heaven or hell. How difficult is that for a trapped soul meant for heaven , to escape those in hell? It is my first book of this author and it's definitely not going to be my last.

Afterlife is a unique take on life after death unlike anything I’ve ever read before.

The first chapter sets the mood with a scene about a woman in a cemetery. If you are like me, then you might think these first few pages are a bit slow. I suggest you just enjoy the scenery, because in a few more pages you won’t have a chance to catch your breath.

Once the Hellions show up, the story takes off in a mad, desperate dash to the end.

This is not my usual genre for an evening of reading, but I began reading this and couldn't put it down until I was finished in the very early morning hours. The first chapter alone had me feeling claustrophobic and breathing deep. I'm a bit concerned that I will be seeing Hellions in my sleep. A great read to the very last page.

I'm not used to horror stories with a subliminal positive message, so this story took me a little by surprise. I especially liked how Fritz did not follow along with the same, worn out, so "last year" zombie theme, but instead created a thought-provoking story that was still disturbing (a good type of disturbing)
Can't wait to see what Fritz comes up with next!

K. Fritz offers a thought-teasing short story that left me dying for more. Combining iconic symbolism with new twists on what it means to die, Afterlife successfully brings a refreshing look on Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. Without spoiling too much more of the brilliance, I believe his take on demons and emotions drives this short story to being truly 5 stars.

A short novel richly long in imagery. Just on the other side of our existence, Afterlife serves up a tableau eerily evocative of Blake meets Gray in that country churchyard.
