Everyone loves a bargain.

When it comes to selecting a new personal vehicle, Mercury Insurance reports that a sedan is often the "go-to" choice for spendthrift drivers because these cars often boast an affordable price paired with favorable gas mileage.

"An important aspect of researching the ideal vehicle is to consider the total cost of ownership, including insurance," said Chong Gao, director of Product Management R&D for Mercury Insurance, said in a press release about the company's recent research into the most and least affordable sedans to insure. "For example, some vehicles have lower repair costs, which means they might also cost less to insure. Mercury has put together this list to help savvy vehicle shoppers know where savings can be found."

The slideshow above illustrates the most affordable to sedans to insure in 2021, according to Mercury Insurance.

A "sedan" refers to any vehicle that has separate compartments for mechanics, passengers and cargo. Variations of the style include close-coupled sedans, club sedans, convertible sedans, fastback sedans, hardtop sedans, notchback sedans and the sedanet/sedanette.
