Inside the Premiere of the Pretty Little Liars Sequel With Sofia Carson

Sofia Carson doesn’t do anything by halves. The actress and star of Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists likes to be unapologetically glamorous, so when it came time for this weekend’s world premiere of the Pretty Little Liars sequel in Los Angeles, she pulled out all the stops. Forget jeans or red carpet sneakers: Carson brought out her glam squad of stylist Nicolas Bru, hair stylist Caile Noble, and makeup artist Karan Mitchell and headed straight for the gowns. Her final look—a dramatic sequin and floral-covered dress from Elie Saab’s Resort 2019 collection—was perfect.

Like many fans who spent seven seasons unraveling the secrets of “A,” Carson was hooked on the original TV series. When its creator I. Marlene King asked her to play Ava Jalali, a tech-savvy beauty who finds herself wrapped up in a murder mystery, she jumped at the chance to continue the story and work with one of her heroes. “[Marlene] introduced the world to a dark, twisted, and powerful universe,” said Carson. “A universe that stood for inclusivity, with multi-dimensional, complex and profound female characters at the forefront.”

Though she remains mum on the exact details of the highly anticipated plot, Carson already considers the experience a career highlight and on her big night out with co-stars Sasha Pieterse, Janel Parrish, and Sydney Park, she had plenty to celebrate. “We drove to the premiere and passed a billboard on Sunset Boulevard with our faces on it,” said Carson. “If that’s not what dreams are made of, I don’t know what is.”
