Centerstage names Federal Way’s Duval as interim artistic director

The board of directors of Centerstage Theatre Arts Conservatory announces actor/director and Federal Way resident Trista Duval as interim artistic director. Duval will take over the artistic director duties from retiring Artistic Director Alan Bryce effective July 1.

Centerstage audiences will remember Duval in the role of the Good Fairy in Centerstage’s December 2016 panto, “Little Red Riding Hood.” She also recently played the Lady of the Lake in Tacoma Musical Playhouse’s 2017 production of “Spamalot.” She served as arts director at Overcomer Church in Federal Way from 2009-14 and has directed shows locally at Act 1 Theatre in Puyallup as well as the Tacoma Musical Playhouse.

Centerstage Board President Bob Dockstader said in a press release that Bryce will continue his association with the theater company as artistic director emeritus.

“Centerstage and Federal Way are greatly indebted to him for making Centerstage the quality professional theater it is,” Dockstader said in the release. “We welcome Trista Duval on board and look forward to her talent, energy and experience taking Centerstage to new heights.”

Centerstage’s 2017-18 season will open Sept. 22 with the classic Agatha Christie mystery “Witness for the Prosecution.” This will be followed by the Federal Way holiday tradition, the madcap Christmas Panto, with this year’s installment being “Beauty and the Beast.” Winter and spring will see productions of Sarah Ruhl’s “Dead Man’s Cell Phone,” followed by “Return to the Forbidden Planet.” The season will end with a world premiere of “The Human Animal” by John Forster, composer of the music for Centerstage’s hit production, “For All That.” Season tickets are now on sale by calling Centerstage at 253-661-1444.

Centerstage is Federal Way’s resident professional theater company. Founded in 1977, it has performed at the Knutzen Family Theatre at the Dumas Bay Center since 2003. Under contract with the City of Federal Way, Centerstage has managed the Knutzen Family Theatre since April 2009.
