New York (March 10, 2023) – Today, the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) announced the results of recent AGS Board and Nominating Committee elections.
The AGS Board and Nominating Committee are comprised of geriatrics health professionals who are committed to improving the health, independence, and quality of life for all of us as we age. The following AGS Members were elected to the AGS Board of Directors by AGS members:
Mark Supiano, MD, AGSF, AGS President-Elect
Mark Supiano, MD, AGSF is the Chief of the Geriatrics Division at the University of Utah, where he also serves as the Executive Director of the university’s Center on Aging. An AGS member since 1985, Dr. Supiano has held many leadership roles within the Society, including: Program Chair of the 2006 AGS Annual Scientific Meeting, Associate Editor of the JAGS Editorial Board (2000-2005), and as a Board Member of the ADGAP Board of Directors (2007-2017), ultimately serving as both its President and Board Chair. Dr. Supiano is now concluding his third year as AGS Treasurer.
Judith L. Beizer, PharmD, BCGP, FASCP, AGSF, AGS Board Member (2nd term)
Judith L. Beizer, PharmD, BCGP, FASCP, AGSF is a clinical professor at St. John's University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and clinical pharmacist at the Stern Family Center for Rehabilitation in the Northwell Health System. Dr. Beizer has long been an active AGS member, having served on the AGS Nominating Committee, the AGS Public Policy Committee, the expert panels that developed the 2012, 2015, 2019 and 2022 AGS Beers Criteria®, and as consulting editor on pharmacotherapy for the AGS’s Geriatrics Review Syllabus. As an AGS Board Member, Dr. Beizer serves on the Audit Committee and is a liaison to the Education Committee and Health Systems Innovation and Technology Committee.
Susan Parks, MD, AGS Board Member (1st Term)
Dr. Susan Parks is the Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University. She brings to her role 28 years of clinical experience across various sites of geriatric care, which she was recognized for as the recipient of the AGS Mid-Career Clinician Educator of the Year Award in 2015. Dr. Parks has strong record of national leadership within ADGAP. She served as Chair of the ADGAP Fellowship Directors Group from 2010-2013, then from 2015-2022 on the ADGAP Board of Directors, where she was ultimately elected as President and then Chair.
Megan Young, MD (AGS Board Member, 1st Term)
Dr. Megan Young is the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Director of the Geriatrics Clerkship at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine, whose scholarly work is grounded in a strong commitment to medical student education. As an AGS Member, Dr. Young is a member of the AGS Education Committee, Chair of the AGS Teachers Section, and serves as a leader of the AGS Tideswell Special Interest Group.
The following AGS members were elected to the AGS Nominating Committee by the Membership:
Robert M. Palmer, MD, MPH (Nominating Committee member, 2nd term)
Robert M. Palmer, MD, MPH is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Internal Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School and has been an AGS member since 1985. A frequent attendant of the AGS Annual Scientific Meetings, Dr. Palmer has served as the Chair of the AGS Acute Hospital Care Special Interest Group for the past 27 years. Additionally, Dr. Palmer serves as an Associate Editor of JAGS, has served on the Clinical Practice & Models of Care and Public Policy Committees, and was honored as the recipient of the Edward Henderson Award at the 2015 AGS Annual Meeting.

“We had so many great candidates in this election cycle,” commented outgoing Board Chair Peter Hollmann, MD, AGSF. “The Board candidates who were elected by the members and the officers who were elected by the Board bring diverse expertise and experience to our work. I am pleased to welcome them to the AGS Board and know that the Society will be in good hands when their terms in office and on these groups start this May at our AGS Annual Meeting. At that meeting, I will be fortunate to hand the Board Chair role to Michael Harper, MD, AGSF who will be completing his year as President and welcome Donna Fick, PhD, GCNS-BC, FGSA, FAAN into her new role as President.”
