Pacific Park's Modular Rental Building Finally Tops Out

After more than a decade of planning and a few years of construction, the day has finally arrived: The final modular unit was put into place at 461 Dean Street, the 32-story rental building within the Pacific Park megaproject, and the building is now officially topped out. With 363 apartments (181 units of those allocated to low and middle-income residents through an affordable housing lottery), 461 Dean Street is on track to meet its projected fall 2016 completion date.

It wasn't an easy road getting there: Construction on the building (formerly known as B2) began in 2013, but it was beset by delays and infighting between Forest City Ratner and Skanska, which was originally behind construction of the project. But Forest City Ratner took over construction soon after, building out the modular units in a factory at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and things have moved along at a rapid clip since.

This marks the completion of one component of the Pacific Park megaproject that will eventually have more than 2,200 affordable units. At 461 Dean Street, rent for these units will range from $559 for the cheapest studio to $3,012 for the most expensive two-bedroom.
