The capital region is likely to see 3 to 4 inches of snow after clouds begin rolling in Tuesday, and precipitation could continue through the week, according to meteorologists.
Conditions over the city are expected to become increasingly cloudy and overcast Tuesday night, quickly followed by snowfall that could drop up to an inch by Wednesday morning, said David Martin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in State College.
Snowfall could continue into Thursday, but the bulk of precipitation is expected to fall by midnight Wednesday, Martin said.
"Basically for Harrisburg, you’re looking for an inch Tuesday night up to 3, maybe 4 inches total through Thursday," he said.
By Thursday morning, the chances for additional snowfall will decrease significantly, Martin said.
Even heavier snowfall is expected south of Harrisburg by Wednesday night, Martin said.
As much as 6 inches of snow could fall in Somerset County east along the southern border toward York County, including Bedford, Fulton, Franklin and Adams counties, Martin said.
Areas nearer to Washington, D.C., are expected to bear the brunt of the winter storm, Martin said.
