The Harrisburg area can expect about 4 to 5 inches of snow Tuesday night through Wednesday.
But should the storm move further north, the midstate could see up to 8 inches of snow, said meteorologist Tony Mach of the National Weather Service at State College.
The storm likely will drop the most snow south of central Pennsylvania, along the Mason-Dixon Line, however, with Harrisburg sitting on the northern fringe of the weather event, Mach said.
There is a 90 percent chance of snow after midnight Tuesday, with temperatures in the low 30s, he said.
"There's going to be a pretty sharply defined area from where there is snow and heavier snow right now. The best chance for snow is across the southern third of Pennsylvania," Mach said. "It's still a couple days out, and it is subject to change."
Overnight, it will be mostly cloudy with a few snow flurries and temperatures in the low 20s, Mach said.
Monday will be mostly sunny, with a high in the upper 30s.
