NEWARK - The president of a Marlton-based staffing agency scammed another firm out of $400,000, according to U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito.

David Hare, 47, of Philadelphia was charged Thursday with wire fraud.

Hare had Apollo enter into an agreement with the victim company to provide payroll funds for employees that Apollo staffed at other businesses, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Allegedly, Hare provided the victim company false invoices and time cards for employees Apollo placed at other firms over a two-month period last summer.

An investigation reportedly revealed more than 15 phony invoices were submitted to the victim company with hours that were never worked.

The victim company then paid Apollo $400,000 based on the invoices, officials said.

Hare faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years as well as a fine of $250,000, or twice the gross amount he caused the victim company to lose.

Hare appeared in Newark’s federal court Thursday in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Leda Dunn Wettre.
