10 Ways to Store That New Father’s Day Tie
Glass cabinets, drawer organizers and curtain rods are among the clever options for showing off your collection
There’s a decent chance you or someone in your family received a new tie this Father’s Day. Since neckties are one of those clothing items that one rarely outgrows or throws away, they tend to pile up over the years. Instead of just tossing that new tie in a drawer and calling it a day, here are 10 functional and stylish storage solutions for your collection.
1. Drawer organizer. Consider adding a honeycomb-shaped organizer to your drawer. These provide a separate slot for each individual tie and let you see your entire collection without having to go through everything.
2. Custom drawers. While a drawer organizer will do the trick, if you really want to create a bespoke look, it’s hard to beat customized drawers. The design team at The Hammer & Nail created this custom drawer. Each individual compartment ranges from 3½ to 4½ inches, depending on the width of the tie.
3. Glass cabinet. Drawers are great, but if you have the room, a tall cabinet will allow you to hang your ties and forgo the hassle of folding them. This custom built-in cabinet features a glass door, allowing one to pick out a tie without even having to open the cabinet.
4. End caps. The end of a cabinet often goes unused, but if there’s enough space, it can be a great spot to add storage for items that don’t take up a lot of room. This walk-in closet in Minneapolis features an end cap with just enough space to store a collection of ties.
5. Rotating tie rack. The metal spindles on these three tie racks allow you to rotate your collection to select the perfect tie. It’s a clever way to keep track of which tie you wore last.
6. Tie cubby. A tie cubby is a great way to display a large collection of ties. This custom cubby in Salt Lake City holds 108 ties. Consider displaying your ties in a color spectrum to choose the ideal shade for the occasion.
7. Wall hooks. A blank wall in a walk-in closet is an ideal location to add hooks to hang your ties from. For those of you who haven’t mastered the art of tying a tie, this is a nice option because you don’t have to completely undo the knot to hang the tie.
8. Underneath a drawer. The empty space underneath a cabinet with drawers can be a great spot to add tie storage. Add hooks to the bottom of the drawer so you can pull out your collection when searching for a tie and then tuck it back in when you’re done.
9. Curtain rods. If you don’t have a large walk-in closet, never fear. Adding curtain rods to a wall is an efficient way to create functional tie storage, as seen in this master bedroom in Toronto.
10. Get creative. When it comes to ties, the team at Avocado Sweets Design Studio says, “Don’t hide them away in cupboards!” In this London home, the designers added rope along the top of a staircase to display the homeowner’s collection.
