HAMPTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A former Hampton County Sheriff's Office deputy has been indicted on charges he molested a child while working as a school resource officer, authorities say.

A release from the Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor's Office states 52-year-old Larry Heyward, of Garnett was indicted Thursday on one count of criminal sexual conduct with a minor between 11 and 14, committing a lewd act on a minor, and misconduct in public office.

Court documents state Heyward committed the offenses on a child between the ages of 11 and 14 years.  The alleged abuse happened between August 2010 and December 2012.

Heyward was fired after a male student came forward to report he had been abused on multiple occasions during the aforementioned time period.

SLED agents arrested Heyward in early January following an investigation which was requested by the Hampton County Sheriff's Department, Berry said.

The investigation is ongoing.
