New Harrisburg water main leak delays reopening of South Cameron Street

South Cameron Street in Harrisburg likely will not reopen as planned tonight since a new leak has sprung in a joint connecting a water line workers installed.

A worker studies the latest water line leak on South Cameron Street in Harrisburg.

The leak was found Sunday night as workers conducted pressure tests on the new line, which was installed after a water main broke on South Cameron Street late Saturday.

It was the second water main to burst on Cameron Street in less than a week.

The rupture closed South Cameron Street, from Allison Street to South 13th Street, and City Council Public Works Chairwoman Sandra Reid said the new leak likely will prevent the road from reopening this evening.

"It doesn't look good," Reid said.

A boil water advisory is still in effect for residents and businesses between Paxton Street and the southern city line.
