Woohoo, I'm so happy that some folks have let me know that they are looking forward to a tutorial and quilt along for the quilt formerly known as Dillon's Quilt! You may have noticed that I gave this quilt a real name. Poor Dillon...I did not want his name forever tied to this design, so I've decided to call it the "Arrow Tail Quilt" since the shapes resemble arrow tails.
:: I have updated and verified to the best of my abilities the supplies for a baby size and twin size quilt. If you are interested in some other size, I think that it will be fairly obvious how to downsize or upsize this pattern once you get going.
:: Please note that you will need the entire width of the quarter yard cuts of fabric and fat quarters (in other words, make sure you have nice healthy cuts of fabric!).
:: For the baby size quilt, if you are using directional prints, you will need third yard cuts or fat quarters. The fabric requirements above assume you will not have more than 4 directional prints in your quilt. If you have more, your fabric requirements may be higher.

:: Are you interested in joining the quilt-a-long? This will be a very informal quilt-a-long, so please "join in" at any time. Since I needed to develop the tutorial, I have already begun my new version of this lovely quilt! So, I won't be sewing along with you but I'll be here if ya need me!
:: If you are on flickr, feel free to join my flickr group here - introduce yourself, post photos, ask questions. I've gone ahead and added some photos of my progress thus far.
:: If you are following along here and would like to comment, please make sure you are not a no-reply blogger. If you are, you can read about how to fix that here, if you'd like. Being a "reply blogger" enables me to correspond with you if you have any questions.
Whether you decide to join the quilt-a-long or not, I'd love to see your finished quilt!! I will post the cutting instructions tomorrow (so if you're raring to go...not too long from now!), and the piecing instructions later this week. See you soon!

THis is beautiful! I'm hoping to gather fabric this week & possibly begin by the weekend!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with this pattern and also you blue/ green/grey color scheme. Are those fabrics from a particular collection? That quilt is perfect for my new baby boy!
ReplyDeleteHi Marissa,
ReplyDeleteThese fabrics are from a few different collections. The elephants are by Daiwabo (kind of hard to find now). Most of the other prints are from collections by Denyse Schmidt for Joanns. The solids I think are Kona Ash, deep blue (i think) and Essex Linen lime. Hope that helps! : )
If I wanted to make a king size quilt would I just double the amount of fabric needed for the twin size? I love the pattern. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletehi laurel! i'm starting this tutorial now! will send you a pic when i'm done (don't hold your breath). thanks for posting! xx
ReplyDeletejust found this--I'm going to try it in flannel! Thanks for giving a great tutorial.
ReplyDeleteOooh, flannel will be awesome! Let me know how it goes...or went - I'm a little late : )
DeleteI was wondering how much material I need for a baby quilt I have four different materials
Deletegreat quilt gonna try it
ReplyDeleteThis is so lovely. I think I might have to try my hand at quilting again now that I have more patience (and fabric). This looks like something I could tackle and might be a great gift for my mom! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome! I'm sure it'd be a lovely gift for your Mom! : )

ReplyDeleteI just finished this and I am loving it! It is my first try at quilting and is for my oldest daughter and soon her daughter will arrive. I chose to hand quilt it and would love to show you a photo of how it turned out. I made slight modifications...very slight but I do really like it! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Sue! I would LOVE to see some pictures of your finished quilt. It sounds fantastic!! You can email them to me at lkrynock@earthlink.net

Has anyone made this into a queen size quilt? I would love to have the measurements to make for my bed!
ReplyDeleteI'm also interested in making a queen size. Did you happen to find or figure out measurements for it?
DeleteMy daughter sent me the picture of the orange colored quilt like this pattern above and begged me to make it for her. Unfortunately I could never find the pattern. Well almost 2 yrs later this quilt and pattern has been traced back to you!! This is wonderful news.. Oh my daughter is 28!! she loves this style. Thanks for sharing this pattern!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Hope you enjoy making it!
DeleteThe baby size quilt would fit a crib, right? It's not just a lap blanket?
ReplyDeleteHi Madison, it measures approx 40" x 60". Which, I believe is a bit bigger than an average sized crib. Hope that helps!
DeleteIs there any way yy could email me the pdf pattern so i can print it off ? For some reason it isnt working through my drop box.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to use scraps to make this, would like the template of one arrow row
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! Do you know if you would able to make this using fat quarters? If so how many fat quarters would be needed?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Amber! Yes, you can make the quilt with FQs. If you look at the blog post above, under Arrow Tail Quilt Supplies, I list 13 FQs required to make the baby size quilt. For the twin size quilt, I list 14 half yard cuts, so I'd assume you'd need about 28-30 FQs. Hope that helps!
DeleteSo excited to have found this pattern. Starting it this weekend!
ReplyDelete?m impressed, I must say. Really rarely do I encounter a blog that?s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.Get Best Protective fabrics in all over the world.
ReplyDeleteCynthiamsnow@hotmail.com can you please email me the pdf as I can't print it from Dropbox and I'd love to try this quilt
