Mapping The 10 Best Selling Buildings Of 2012

View as Map

There are plenty of people out there who love to hate on the Edge, but for the second year in a row, the condo was the top selling development in New York City. The good people at Property Shark compiled their annual list of the 10 top-selling buildings, and last year, the Edge sold 167 units, with a median price of $804,418, earning it the top spot once again?in 2011, the building sold 272 units. Obviously, it helps to have a crapload of apartments to sell in order to be the best-selling, but the Edge wasn't the only repeat. In fact, five of the top 10 also made the list last year.

The Williamsburg Edge

For the second year running, the Edge took first place, selling 167 units at a median price of $804,418. The complex is now sold out, and it can count a famed broadcaster amongst its residents.

The Sheffield

The second repeat contender is the Sheffield, which sold 102 of its 580 units at a median price of $1,453,231. The building has had its ups and downs over the years, with the downs coming mostly back when it was known as the Sheffield57, so it's nice to see its doing well these days. The amenities finally opened last year, and Goldie Hawn even checked out a place there.

99 John St Lofts

Another repeat! The 99 John Deco Lofts sold 85 units with a median price of $675,000. 99 John Street is an office-to-condo conversion with 442 units, which first came to the market back in 1999 as rentals.

One Brooklyn Bridge Park

Selling 82 units earned One Brooklyn Bridge Park the fourth spot on the top 10 list. The waterfront condos fetched a median price of $890,000. Last year, the building also made the best-selling list, having sold 95 units in 2011.

Fifth on the Park closed out 2011 as the best selling building in Harlem, and last year, it became one of the best selling in the whole city, moving 76 of its 160 units.

Sky View Parc

One of two Queens properties to make the list is Flushing's giant Sky View Parc. The project seems to have put its buyers-backing-out-problems behind it. It sold 74 units 134 last year, at a median selling price of $545,000. UPDATE 2/14/13: Reps sent word that the building sold 134 units, not 74, in 2012.

The Aldyn

The Aldyn had a bang up 2012, hosting the Kips Bay Decorator Show House, receiving a dog concierge service, attracting at least one celebrity buyer, and selling 66 units. That's a pretty good follow to 2011, when it was twice featured on Selling New York. What will 2013 bring?

The Industry Condominium

The Industry has 76 units, and it sold all but 12 of those last year. The building launched sales in summer 2011, and by May of last year, it was more than 50 percent sold.

The Residences at 400 Fifth Avenue

The residences atop the Setai demanded high asking prices, but they sold very well. In 2012, the building sold 64 units for a median price of $1,832,850. One unit that still hasn't sold is the $32 million penthouse, which has been on the market for 349 days without a visit from the pricechopper.

Oro Condominiums

Our fifth and final repeat is Oro, which is also the only Downtown Brooklyn building to make the list—in 2010, DoBro developments took five of the ten spots. Oro sold 64 units last year.
