He’s played the O2, he’s played in Wembley, but now Ed Sheeran has the opportunity to play a gig that will really change lives after being invited to open a music bus for autistic children.

The Gretton School in Girton, which specialises in helping autistic students, has a new bus it is have transformed into a special music classroom and its inviting none other than pop superstar Ed Sheeran to open it.

The school is hoping the bus will act as a classroom and performance space for pupils to help them express themselves creatively.

Emma Beardmore, a music teacher at Gretton School, said: “Gretton is a school for functioning autistic students.

“In the last few years, music has really taken off. Students really love expressing themselves. The school is expanding and has more students. This will really, really excite the students.

“The bus will give us a two-storey building without having to build anything.

"Downstairs will look like a classroom. We’ll take out the driver’s cab. There will be tables and chairs. Upstairs, there will be a performance area, with keyboards, guitars and other instruments. We will have classes of seven students at a time.”

Mrs Beardmore said a visit from Ed Sheeran would definitely be a boost for the students.

“He may play for us,” she said. “The kids would love it.”

The News contacted Ed for a comment.
