Women’s Tennis Blanks Hamline

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team earned its second win of the season in shutout fashion, defeating Hamline University 9-0 Saturday afternoon at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.

Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) improved her perfect play this year, winning at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1 and then teaming with Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) to win at No. 1 doubles 8-2. Gunderson won her No. 3 singles match, as well, 6-2, 6-2.

Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School) was victorious at No. 2 singles 6-0, 7-5. Zwiener and partner Kelli Johnson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) came out on top at No. 2 doubles 8-1. Johnson played at No. 5 singles and won 6-3, 6-1.

Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) also remained unbeaten in singles play, not surrendering a single game at the No. 4 spot to win 6-0, 6-0. The final singles winner was Aleksandra Ochrymowicz (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) at the No. 6 spot 6-0, 6-1.

The last CSS winners on the day were the No. 3 doubles team of Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and Allie Carlson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS), who won 8-5.

The Saints (2-1) will head over to Moorhead tomorrow for a make-up of last weekend's postponed matches at Concordia College. Action is set to resume around 4 p.m.
