CEO Update | 03/05/22

I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the 2021/22 season as well as share some updates as we look forward to the 2022/23 campaign.

I joined in August and at the end of September we had the official confirmation that Morton Club Together had taken the majority ownership & shareholding in the football club. For me, not only did that mean the club was now officially community owned but it was testament to the hard work of the directors, volunteers & many more involved that the organisation had went from formation in April 2019 to majority ownership just over two years later in 2021. Even better, they agreed a deal that also saw the club’s stadium, Cappielow Park, stay in the hands of the football club.

With our 2022 Annual Dinner on Saturday bringing this season to a close, I would like to take a moment to thank everyone involved at the Club from the directors, to the staff, the players, volunteers & supporters who have all played such a big part in our revival since Christmas. Now that our safety in the cinch Championship has been secured our attention and work has already begun to prepare for next season both on & off the pitch. We are fortunate to have staff who both have the drive and ambition to take the football club forward and who constantly strive to raise the standards at every given opportunity here at Cappielow Park.

I wanted to thank fans for their incredible patience, particularly with a lot of the logistical challenges and changes we made in order to navigate through the compliance side of Covid-19 protocol throughout the season. I know it was an inconvenience at times, but as we head into the forthcoming season the protocol will return to normal.

I’d like to thank McGill’s BusesBlairs Windows & DoorsArc Fleet Services and Saveheat Glass for being the main sponsors of the football club this year, and to the rest of our advertising sponsors for their invaluable support of the club.

This year we have tried to improve the number of communications and content coming out of the football club. If you would like to stay in touch regarding all things at the club this summer, sign up to our mailing list today by visiting here.

I’d like to thank Morton in the Community, who have recently installed a defibrillator on site at the Cappielow Park and who over the summer will be helping us explore the feasibility of the former blind commentary box at the top of Section A in the Main Stand becoming a sensory room that can cater to the needs of families and organisations using the space going forward.

Morton in the Community & the football club are exploring the potential to support those within the local community who could benefit from the space throughout the season including families and children with sensory process disorders such as autism, as well as those in palliative care, to be able to attend matches in comfort as well as their carers in a calm & safe space.

Over the last few months, feedback has been sent in regularly asking for us to do more to let U12s access matches if they do not have a parent or guardian with them. We have been exploring demand for a kids club on match days at Cappielow Park which will allow U12s to access matches without an adult. U12s will then be able to access games in a specific area within the ground where they will be supervised by PVG’d coaches from Morton in the Community in order to keep them safe at all times.

As we head into next season the football club has to face the challenges of rising costs across most areas of our operations and it will be up to myself & the commercial department to do that as best we can by working hard to provide the 1st Team Manager, Dougie Imrie with the best resources we possibly can. Many new concepts are being worked on including a new look business club set to launch with the new season.

We have a busy couple of weeks ahead as we launch our season tickets for the 2022/23 cinch Championship campaign as well as our new Joma strips.

Best wishes

Chris
