Richmond's Taylor Selected Student-Athlete of the Year, Headlines 2012 Academic All-Conference Team
RICHMOND,
Va. – Richmond redshirt senior Cooper Taylor has been
selected as the 2012 CAA Football Student-Athlete of the Year, headlining an
impressive list of 148 Academic All-Conference honorees for the 2012 season.
Taylor has excelled both in the classroom and on the field over the
course of his career, graduating in December with a cumulative 3.58 GPA and a
degree in Business Management from the university’s renowned Robins School of
Business. The Atlanta native now becomes a two-time Academic All-Conference
honoree after transferring to UR from Georgia Tech as a junior. Taylor was
named a First Team Capital One Academic All-American in addition to receiving
CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in December.
Richmond’s senior defensive back also racked up the All-America accolades
for his on-the-field accomplishments as well, capping off his collegiate career
as a First Team Associated Press, Walter Camp and Sports Network All-American. The
First Team All-CAA selection started all 10 games in which he appeared in 2012,
finishing the season with 78 tackles, 5.0 TFL, 1.5 sacks, four interceptions,
three forced fumbles, four quarterback hurries and nine pass breakups.
CAA Football designated 141 student-athletes as members of its 2012
Academic All-Conference team, marking an improvement of 20 players from the
2011 squad. New Hampshire was represented by a league-high 24 players on this
year’s list.
To be eligible for the CAA Football Academic All-Conference Team, a
player must be a starter or important reserve and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.00
or higher (on a 4.00 scale) for his entire academic career. Transfers and
first-year freshmen are eligible. Voting for the Student-Athlete of the Year award
is conducted by CAA Football’s 11 sports information directors, representing
one vote per school.
