GUWAHATI: A pall of gloom descended over the state on Friday with the death of renowned litterateur and Sahitya Akademi award winner Mahim Bora. Bora (93) was hospitalized here on Thursday after he fell ill.
Doctors said he died of age-related complications. Well-known as a short story writer and poet, Bora received the Padma Shri in 2011. Ten years before that, he won the Sahitya Akademi award for his novel Edhani Mahir Hanhi.
He also won the prestigious Assam Valley Literary Award in 1998. Bora, who was brought up in rural Assam, sketched vignettes of village life in his works. CM Sarbananda Sonowal condoled the death of Bora.
