HUEYTOWN, Alabama - A Birmingham police officer was arrested in Hueytown after an altercation with her husband's ex-wife, authorities confirmed today.

Officer Carletta Walker was arrested February 7, said Hueytown Police Chief Chuck Hagler. She was charged with the misdemeanor crime of menacing.

Walker, whose husband is also a Birmingham police officer, turned herself into Hueytown police about 2:15 p.m. last Thursday after a warrant was signed against her, Hagler said. He declined to give specifics of the altercation, and wouldn't confirm whether the incident involved a gun.

"That's what is on the front of the police report so that's what I will release,'' Hagler said of the information he did release. "I'm making no statement about it at all."

According to the Alabama law, a person commits the crime of menacing if, by physical action, he (or she) intentionally places or attempts to place another person in fear of imminent serious physical injury.

Birmingham police spokesman Sgt. Johnny Williams Jr. said Walker was reassigned to administrative duties after they learned of her arrest.

Walker is among four Birmingham police officers arrested in recent weeks. In January, a Birmingham officer was arrested for domestic violence in an altercation with his daughter. On Friday, Alabaster police arrested a Birmingham officer after authorities said he fled from them during an attempted traffic stop.

And on Saturday, Birmingham police arrested one of their own when they took a robbery detective into custody at his home after he got into an altercation with his girlfriend.
