Operational Delivery
We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment. Acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife is at the heart of everything we do. We work with government, local councils, businesses, civil society groups and communities to make our environment a better place for people and wildlife.

We’re investing £2.5billion between now and 2021 that will reduce flood risk to 300,000 homes across the UK. It’s an exciting time and we need your help to ensure we’re prepared for any future flooding.

This role is extremely varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferrable skills. Working closely with other teams, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:

• Engaging with communities and businesses
• Advising local planning authorities
• Issuing environmental works permits
• Delivering projects
• Mapping data

There are opportunities to get involved with incident management when flooding occurs. We have a flexible range of roles you can volunteer for and you’ll get all the training and support you need.
Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) plays a huge part in the work that the Environment Agency does; helping to protect against flooding and minimising the risks caused by any floods that do occur. The work we do directly and in partnership with others reduces flood risk to communities.
You'll have first-class communications skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external partners as well as the general public. It’s advantageous to have a project/programme management and/or a customer-oriented background too. You are required to have experience in at least one of the following areas:

• A good working knowledge of health and safety
• Skilled at managing multiple priorities and competing demands
• Be able to show where you’ve worked with others to deliver success
• Be an intelligent problem solver too, with a methodical work approach
• Ideally have a driving licence, though it may not be essential for all roles
• Have an engineering or science background and, ideally, a relevant degree (or equivalent) or professional qualification

Please don’t be put off applying if you don’t have a degree - experience in the flood risk sector is much more important to us.
Partnerships and Strategic Overview (PSO) teams coordinate our relationship with other flood risk management authorities in their area including Lead Local Flood Authorities. PSO have the overview of how flood risk is being managed in their area and will help other area teams and partner organisations plan future projects such as the creation of new flood defences. The team interprets data and flood mapping, works up projects, advises on any development that might be affected by flood risk and issue permits for work in or near rivers.
