Your safety is always our priority when planning your celebration. Our Medical Director, Dr. Darrin Bright, and I are monitoring the predicted weather forecast for race morning this Sunday.
The forecast is calling for higher than normal temperatures, with a potential high of 90 degrees combined with
high humidity and scattered thunderstorms. High temperatures and high humidity can put participants at risk.
Staying properly hydrated is important. We will have extra water at all aid stations and extra water and iced down towels at the finish line. Thirst is a good indication that you are under hydrated. You should maintain hydration levels slightly greater than your hydration program in training, but not excessively so.
Slowing down your pace can significantly decrease your risks. Choosing proper clothing is also very important. Wear loose fitting lightweight clothing. Race morning will not be the day to wear tights, long sleeve shirts, or compression socks/garments.
It is also important that you complete the emergency medical contact information on the back of your race bib.
Recognizing symptoms of heat illness is important. Symptoms may include headaches, dizziness, confusion, fatigue, nausea and vomiting. If you experience any of these symptoms stop running immediately and if symptoms persist seek medical attention.
Our
inclement weather policy is posted on the event website. Our flag warning system that we implemented at The OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon will be used this Sunday as well.
We will continue to monitor the weather and will update all of you on the event website, social media networks and with live announcements at the event of any alterations or delays. Please be sure to follow us on
Facebook and
Twitter for the latest updates.
We are excited to celebrate with you this Sunday and look forward to a safe and remarkable experience.
