Faced with the devasting news of her husband Steve's diagnoses of ALS disease, she found herself in what she terms as " the fight of our lives". Things and life did become different;through it all however she and Steve have learned to live each day with a generous heart as both purposed to share God's goodness in the middle of their battlefield. Through this trial she has witnessed gifts and supernatural notes that testify He knows what she is going through.
This is not a book simply to tell her story but to encourage you in your battles to know that both joy and sorrow can exist simultaneously. She teaches that time needs to be spent wisely, to live each day and love what God puts inside of it, and to not be afraid to take risks. The most profound statement she made to me regarding the battle at hand is that God has built provision in every minute where she will need it. It's a comfort in knowing that He does not leave us without equipping us with strength and endurance for the battle at hand.
Bo Stern, I am convinced, is a person chosen by God to connect with the masses in conveying truths that our battles do not have to define us but that, if we would but change our paradigm we can embrace God fully and love others through our pain that otherwise would paralyze us in self centeredness.
You will learn other important things such as:
-How friends can multiply your strength in the middle of the battle.
-Benefits that can be derived from sorrow
-How generosity can increase your courage and faith in God's provision
-The pitfalls of bitterness, unforgiveness, and untempered anger
You will gain a better perspective on suffering while being encouraged and thoroughly strengthened for any circumstance that lies ahead. This book will serve as one of the best God-inspired trophies one can present to others. Plunge in this hard to put down book and conclude, as I did, that out of the ashes of our sorrows await opportunities that glisten for His glory.
Recently, we joined a family in celebrating the life of a remarkable young woman who, along with her husband and children, fought an incredibly valiant battle with cancer. Throughout the year-long fight, beautiful things grew. This amazing woman was an example of faith, trust, strength and hope in spite of overwhelming odds. The world will say that she lost her battle with cancer; however, believers know that she won a victory for her Lord and Savior.
She was an extraordinary example of what faith can do--shine a light into darkness, flow water through a desert and bring hope to the hopeless. While death brought an end to her life on earth, she lives on in the lives of her husband and children. And heaven will never be the same.
Last week, I read a book called "Beautiful Battlefields" by Bo Stern. Stern's husband, Steve, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. While some might give up and cry out in anger blaming God, Bo and Steve Stern decided to run toward God.
In part one of "Beautiful Battlefields", Stern talks about all the beautiful things you receive on the battlefields of life--provision, supernatural strength, endurance, eternal perspective and joy and sorrow. In the second part, strategies for growing stronger teach how to feel secure in spite of the shaking, be obedient in spite of God's unpredictability, find an army of loyal and unshakable friends, avoid bitterness, speak strength and become brave. No matter what battlefield you've been called to, God is using it for a purpose. Bo Stern walks you through finding that purpose.
"Beautiful Battlefields" is inspiring, encouraging, and life-changing. Everyone should read this book in preparation for whatever battle they will someday come. To find out more about the Sterns and Beautiful Battlefields, visit [...]

We wonder if there is purpose to our lives as they are, with the battles we wage. Every day, and/or over the course of our lives, it can be a very lonely, seemingly isolated journey when we are on the battlefields of life. This book will challenge you, to realize a new perspective - one outside of yourself and beyond today - even when today seems impossible.
I turned down many pages of this book until the cornered pages nearly outnumbered those not marked. Sometimes, I had to put the book aside, because that day I just didn't have the mindset of looking forward.
When I came back though, and read over the pages I'd marked, I was reunited with Bo Stern's call to keep on fighting, to pray, and find joy.
When you're looking for the scripture to pray in your battles, there are many waiting, listed by the circumstances you might be facing right now, at the back of the book. I found the verses of strength, peace, and joy so valuable. I knew immediately where to turn for God's word to speak to me in that moment.
Following each chapter of her story and ministry, Bo Stern gives you thought-provoking questions to and some action steps.
I feel this book suitable for anyone, even in seasons of peace, for when you need someone to go the battle with you; this is the book you will reach for.
