Camouflage Photography by Desiree Palmen

Camouflage Photography by Desiree Palmen

Desiree Palmen, a talented Dutch artist, uses camouflage techniques to capture incredible photographs of people blending into their surroundings.

For each photo, the artist designs new camouflage suit which has to be made with the greatest precision or the illusive effect will not work.

  11. Lifephoto

Idea was executed very well! All the pictures were amazing.

  12. Betty Cires

I really love it. What a brilliant ideia!

  13. Austin Lefebvre

Oh my god, this is amazing! The one that surprised me the most was the bookshelf one, i didn’t even notice the person until I got a bit lower to the picture.

  14. Beezy

    the last two are awesome

  15. karen

wow the book shelf one looks like the person doesnt even have a head!

  16. sara

@karen that’s because (s)he’s bent into the shelf. You can follow the curve of his/her back if you look closely.

Last two are my favorite! AWESOME!

  17. Luke Jones

The last two are amazing, the others are mediocre.

  18. mostafa

    philosophic ideas

  19. robb

the book shelf part is the best one.
    the rest are awesome, too.

  20. tasarhane

stairs and last one is pretty nice..

  21. JennyTAN

    Phenomenal and thought-provoking.

  22. Steve

    The book shelf is good…

  23. Mark Bellis

Wonderful! There were some sight gags in the Swedish film “The Adventures of Picasso”, 1978, with human camouflage.

  24. Giov

    50% Idea 50% genius.. awesome

  25. delere

They got better toward the end. Very sweet idea and execution.

  26. Apple Man

    wow, looks expensive, great job

  27. Robert

Awesome, I love the last two!

  28. ass

    Sweet………Octo-camo !

  29. Kurrus

The one with the books sure is top shelf.

  30. Alok

The staircase one looks eerily like a ghost. And as many others have said, the last two are simply amazing.

All of it really is a brilliant idea, though!

  31. Chad

OMG, these are AMAZING Kudos to the artist.

  32. mykat

Just look for Mossy Oak camouflage to see people totally blend into the woods.

  33. asdfsd

Its easy to reproduce. they are wearing a “blue” suit, thats the same as a blue screen in movies, and the artist just edits the pics. pretty uninspiring. if you actually think those are real clothes youre being duped.

  34. Josh

Awesome! So precise! It really looks like the bookcase one doesn’t have a head! But the best one is the last one! Really good.

  35. tt

this is good I’m pretty sure they’re all photoshops idk if they’re not supposed to be though…

  36. Brennan

I’m about 95% sure that most of them, especially the last two, are all photoshoped..Not saying they aren’t awesome because they are quite decent..I’m pretty sure that they are made by having the person where a green suit and then having photoshop replace all the fluorescent green with whatever is on the layer directly behind it…

  37. Brennan

craaapp… *wear haha…my 3rd grade teacher would hit me..

  38. Adelle

the bookcase one is so SO good, and I love the one with the pile of newspapers on the table, too

    very good

  39. Adelle

oh, also…I think photoshop would be much more precise. The legs of the staircase one are just a little bit off, and many of the “street” ones are not precise at all. If it was shopped, the artist would have made it more perfectly precise, don’t you think?

  40. Ivy

    cool! you’re a genius! :)

  41. arun

    good creativity

  42. GPL2

Fun, but is it art? Yes, beauty is, indeed, in the eye of the beholder and these are quite beautiful, but again, are they artistic? Your call!

  43. djashish

Camouflage is something soldiers do before going in enemy’s territory, but Camouflage photography is something awe-inspiring.great work.

  44. Solid Snake

Umm Solid snake has been doing this for like ever. Come on people, everything cool is obviously rooted in a video game. JK. Very creative, cool, and well executed. Who made the garmets and how?

  45. Josh

Pretty freakin’ sweet! What motivates people to do this?

  46. Roach

The bookshelf one certainly threw me off at first! All of them are amazing though, fantastic job!!

  47. shaunjudy

These are some really cool pics…I love the last two!

  59. doruk

the last one is so cool!

  60. amit

  62. sdgfdh

This makes me proud to be an artist. Like I got something to show people thats recent and be like “This is what artists do. Don’t tell me to be a lawyer.”

  65. ben

    very cool,so creative

  66. Man

Isn’t that what life is about, blending in.

  67. JOYE 510

These were phenomenal. The last one is the best. You could scare the hell out of anyone walking by w/ these cami clothes.

  68. Harry Barracuda

    ‘Shopped dude.

  69. Tyler

Can I get a bookcase suit? Of course, it must be custom-tailored to my size in relation to the average bookcase…

  70. Ampayeen

I think the book one was the best :)

  71. JTDC

Only two were any good, in terms of camouflaging the target. If you can discern a shape, you fail at it. When you try and match the surroundings exactly, you bring in specific shapes, which in almost all of these cases, brought out the person’s shape.

Modern camouflage acts primarily by breaking up the shape of the individual, not merely matching colors to backgrounds.

  72. That Asian Guy

Y’know, the one that stands in front of the tread on that old construction machine in a suit like that?
He did it much better, and first.

  73. JackStraw

Wow, these are really cool! I like the newspaper one.
    It looks great.

  74. the asian guy is the best

I agree, the asian guy is way better.

    Just sayin…

  75. kristina

Ok this has already been done by that asian guy.. a talented artist doesn’t straight up copy someone else

  76. Steve

Only unimaginitive people cry “Photoshop!” when they see something as creative as this. People who accuse everything of being photoshopped should be banned from the internet and get out more.

  77. Ghost

I’m entertained that I see not a single comment here to remark this artist’s… “similarity”… to Liu Bolin.

  78. j

first half not that good, towards the end becomes a lot better

  79. Thomas P. McHugh

Yes, you needed to paint your shoes. Chalk it up as a learning experience. Paint on my friend.
