New York’s skyline is in the midst of a rapid makeover with amazing new buildings rising or slated for the near future at an ever-quickening pace. Now another new tower is joining the list of high-rises changing the look of New York.

The Republic of Turkey filed plans this week for a 32-story edifice that will house its consulate in New York. Located on First Avenue, not far from the United Nations, the Turkevi Center, as it’s called, isn’t a super tall, like some other buildings going up around town, but in it’s own way, it is as architecturally distinctive as its midcentury-era neighbor.

Its curving facade, inspired, according to architects Perkins Eastman, by the Turkish crescent, rises 561 feet from a podium wrapped in a screen perforated with motifs that recall decorative elements from Islamic architecture. A similar scrim decorates the lobby. You’ll be able to see it for yourself when the Turkevi Center opens in 2018.
