Michigan's average gas price up, ranks 11th highest in nation

Michigan's average gas price is $3.74 per gallon, according to AAA.

Michigan’s average gas price rose 4 cents over the week to an average of $3.74 per gallon.

That’s 30 cents more than the same time last year, according to Dearborn-based auto club AAA Michigan.

The national average is $3.59 per gallon, up seven cents over the week and eight cents over the year.

Michigan has the 11th highest average gas price in the nation in a list that includes Washington, D.C. Hawaii has the most expensive fuel at $4.24 per gallon, while Wyoming has the lowest average price of $3.05 per gallon.

The Marquette area's average price of $3.70 is the lowest compared to nine other metro areas in AAA's Fuel Gauge Report. Jackson's average price of $3.78 is the highest among the metros. (See more Michigan metros here.)

AAA bases its report on a survey of 2,800 Michigan gas stations. Today’s price report is based on the last credit card transaction at each station on Sunday.

One of the lowest prices posted on MichiganGasPrices.com this morning was $3.49 in Detroit. The highest price reported was $3.99 in Romulus, Canton and Cheboygan.

The website, part of GasBuddy.com, reports real-time user-submitted data on gas prices at specific stations.
