Considering the popularity of Asian food in this city, there's a number of food events coming up at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre (6688 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby) that will interest quite a number of people.

The centre's Fall Harvest Fair is going to be held on Saturday (October 1) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This is your chance to purchase fresh Japanese vegetables, such as gobo, kabocha, kyuri, daikon, kabura, ninjun, nasu, and napa. There'll also be Japanese food, such as manju, inari, onigiri, gyoza, umeboshi, tsukemono, baked goods, and more.

Then on October 8 from 12 to 5 p.m., Permai BC (or the Association of the Indonesian Community in B.C.) will be recreating the atmosphere of an alun-alun.

Alun-alun is a Javanese architectural term for the central lawn squares in Indonesian towns and cities that people use as gathering spaces.

Alun-Alun Indonesia 2016 will feature traditional Indonesian food and goods, along with traditional performing arts presented on a central stage. Admission is $3.

Later on, the centre's Food Fair and Japanese Book Sale will be held on October 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. While you can browse through over 30,000 books (including comics, magazines, and DVDs) to feed your mind, you can also feed your body with Japanese treats and an autumn-inspired menu.

Meanwhile, the centre has also announced a call for vendors for their 2016 Craft and Bake Sale to be held on November 12 and 13. The application deadline is October 28, but tables in some sections have already sold out.
