Monday’s Finding: Time for a round of Something Blue

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve posted a “Something Blue” set and given that it’s engagement season, timing for a new round of “Something Blue” couldn’t be better. First, a little history on the “Something Blue” saying.

The tradition of a bride carrying, “Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe”), comes from an Old English saying. These items were carried by a bride to ensure good luck in her marriage. In America, the sixpence is often substituted for a penny, but there are places you can simply order a sixpence from if you wish to hold strongly to the tradition. “Something old represents the link with the bride’s family and the past. Many brides choose to wear a piece of antique family jewelry or a mother’s or grandmother’s wedding gown. Something new represents good fortune and success in the bride’s new life. The wedding gown is often chosen as the new item. Something borrowed is to remind the bride that friends and family will be there for her when help is needed.” -http://daytorememberblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/history-about-something-old-something.html

I hope you enjoy these bits of “Something Blue.” How do you plan on honoring the tradition?
