A Note to My Older Self

Describe what you do at Citymeals.

I’m an Events & Partnerships Associate. In short, I work with my team and others to execute fundraising events and foster partnerships with different establishments all over New York City. We get to work with influential people in the food world to share our mission and create wonderful events where people can taste new foods, sip on unique wines and bid on once-in-a lifetime experiences – all to provide home-delivered meals to older New Yorkers. I’m so incredibly lucky to have a job that gives me this insight – and we’re grateful that the culinary world cares about our mission.

What surprised you about working for Citymeals?

I was pleasantly surprised by the different paths all of my colleagues have taken to get here. We come from varying industries: fashion, education, Wall Street and art – but we are all here with the same purpose. This makes for such a diverse team that’s capable of solving problems and creating new initiatives to help our frail aged neighbors.

What do you enjoy about working for Citymeals?

I enjoy the learning opportunities! Every day, I get to work on my weaknesses and make them into strengths.

What is something you hope you can always do, regardless of age?

Create. I like to think of myself as an artist and storyteller. For my older self, I hope she is still making up stories, making people laugh and walking around with paint-stained clothing.

What’s your favorite food?

I LOVE Pad Thai. Any day. Any time. Anywhere.

Who do you most enjoy sharing a meal with?

I love sharing meals with my family and friends. I think the best conversations I’ve ever had are during dinners at the table without the presence of a television.

What inspires you?

I’m a big believer that what you put out there is very important. I’m truly inspired by people who constantly put out positivity and put the effort into creating an environment filled with good.

What would you like people to know about Citymeals?

When you volunteer with us though our various programs, you get a look into the potential futures of yourself and your loved ones. It’s so easy to think about the present (and of course, you should be present and focus on what’s happening in the moment) and near future, but when providing meals and companionship to the homebound elderly, you get this perspective you may have never had before. We realize what we take for granted! I think that is an insight that everyone can benefit from.
