Wendell Foster announced Thursday that the second annual Wendell Foster Half Marathon will be held March 14, 2020.

The expo for the event will be held the day before at the Owensboro Convention Center.

“Sponsors are in and ready to back us up,” said race director John Gleason, adding that Gold Sponsor Tanner Publishing and Silver Sponsor Rehabilitation and Performance Institute were already committed to the 2020 race.

Of the racers who participated in the inaugural event in and completed the survey, 100 percent said they would recommend the Wendell Foster Half Marathon to other runners. Because of this, Gleason said he believes that people who participated in 2019 will invite friends and family to run as well, so the committee is planning for 1,500 participants in 2020.

“At the finish we had people coming up [to race organizers] and telling us how great it was,” Gleason said. “It was exciting.”

Gleason, who enjoys running himself, did not run in the half marathon due to the responsibilities of managing the event, but said that he found it rewarding all the same.

“To see so many people enjoying it, it was cool,” Gleason said.

Gleason commented that it took a huge amount of work by Wendell Foster employees, committee members and community volunteers, but that everything just came together.

“It truly took a whole community to pull off and it was incredible,” Gleason said. “The City really backed us — from the hundreds of cones to the road closings and officers working.”

Gleason said they expect that the course will remain the same for 2020.

Registration for the 2020 Wendell Foster Half Marathon has not yet opened. Follow the Half Marathon Facebook page for updates concerning 2020 race day.
