If you gained one spell list to 50? (RM Comp 1 table)
« on: September 27, 2018, 10:21:18 AM »
Okay so the table of special abilities on RM Companion 1?  Some grant a single spell list to 50.

I am sure the answer varies based on your profession...but which one would you pick and why?  And oh let’s keep it to Core and RMC1.

I was actually considering the Closed Channel Creation just so my guy could play the party chef. :)

I absolutely love the summoning lists. You can use monkeys almost like Telekineses spells. Crocodiles are tough little beasties when fighting on your side. The variations are limitless. I once dropped a whale on a cavalry charge in a rather Douglas Adams moment.

Not an answer to your question but it made me think about a ruling I made when a player ended up rolling this as a random BG Option.

In order to curb casting multiple high level spells each combat round with this in tow, I ruled that whatever difference in Caster Level vs Spell Level was, was the amount of days that would have to pass before one could use the spell list again.
It made sure that I wouldn’t have to scrap all BBEG encounters or juice them up to become potential insta-TPKs.

Since it only grants the knowledge of the spell lists, level, power points, and ESF all comes into play to restrict 'abuse'.

Sorry, can't keep it to core/RMCI. My answer: Magus Spirit Runes or Command Words

(add in a little Innate Magician....)

Not to derail this thread, but It is interesting you say that:  I vividly remember there being a note saying something to the effect of “not needing to make ESF rolls for” but in looking back at the original RoCoI, it does not say this at all.
I wonder what influenced me to think it needed to be curbed - perhaps it was seeing the same ability in one of the later books that just stuck in my head.

Roll 30 on Skill at Magic is Innate Magician, 1 list no ESF. Probably just conflated the two.

Ethereal Mastery - 3.14 RoCoI

I mean, it has a lot going for it: it's Arcane magic (i.e. powerful magic - look at the note at the top of the spell list: "It should be noted that this list contains among the most dangerous spells ever researched"); it has teleportation spells; it has spells to move from the material plane to the ethereal plane (and by extension: onward to other planes of existance); it has the Ethereal Room spell (how awesome is this spell for hiding stuff from other people?); it has see invisible spells; it can conjure entities from other planes; and most powerful of all, it can destroy magic items (with the 50th level spell: Disjunction).  It's one powerful list.

Nightblade ->--

p.s. as for spell restrictions with the BG Option from RoCoI, that's the only way to keep play balance, otherwise you have PC's casting high level spells when they are still on low levels.

Well, whatever the GM allows is his own fault.
Other than that, just for fun, the deadly BGO combination is Power (one list at 50th), Innate Magician (no ESF so free overcasting and fast casting) and Eloquence (because fast casting may only be performed with two rounds less, a 50 ESF action, whilst overcasting takes four rounds, so Eloquence allows to overcast in one round, thus spamming high level spells every round ;)), and, of course, "Mana Molding" as the chosen spell list. Well, sure the 50th level spell "only" allows effects up to approximately 20th level (though a GM may allow less, since it's not explicitely written so but rather deduced from the 40th level spell allows 10th level effects, and the 60th level spell allows 20-25th level effects) but… Congratulations! You've created a semi-god through three BGOs!  ;D

…that being said, one may say that the mere access to "Mana Molding" is an indication of godhood.
The world was then consumed by darkness, and mankind was devoured alive and cast into hell, led by a jubilant 紗羽. She rejoiced in being able to continue serving the gods, thus perpetuating her travels across worlds to destroy them. She looked at her doll and, remembering their promises, told her: "You see, my dear, we succeeded! We've become legends! We've become villains! We've become witches!" She then laughed with a joyful, childlike laughter, just as she kept doing for all of eternity.
