Twitter's latest update allows users to stream live video directly from the app, in a similar way to Facebook and YouTube.

The new service will be rolled out across Android and iOS in the next few days.

Some have been quick to point out that Twitter-owned Periscope already offers this feature.

But the update allows you to go live straight from the Twitter app, whether or not you have a Periscope account.

This comes a day after National Geographic showcased the first 360 degree Facebook Live.

It will be a while before we can all do the same although Facebook says it's on the way.

YouTube also offers live streaming, but only for verified accounts.

Twitter explained in a blog post that "once you're live, anyone on Twitter and Periscope can join your live video and participate in your experience".

Just like Periscope, viewers can "like" what they are watching can tap the screen to send hearts.

And while we're talking about social media updates... you can also now Shazam directly in Snapchat - what a world we live in.
