Jake Ginnivan's - Future of Web Development (To be presented @ NDC Oslo)

Universal web with npm, React and Redux using WebPack - as presented by Jake at this years NDC Oslo Conference.

This is not a buzzword talk. Together we will build a simple universal web application (does an initial server side render, then becomes a client side JS app) to see how you can leverage WebPack with React and Redux to completely change your view on what web development can be!

The web landscape is constantly evolving, a few years ago a file -> new project would typically have been an MVC application. With asp.net core Microsoft is embracing tools and approaches used in other communities to enable cross platform development with editors like Visual Studio Code.

In this new world we can use Yeoman and run ‘yo aspnet’ and create a asp.net core site which uses WebPack as the build tool and have asp.net do an initial server side render of your application built with React and Redux. This gives you the best of both worlds, get a fast initial render then a fast JavaScript client side application once loaded. Your site will also have much better seo and is even usable with JavaScript turned off!

If most of this doesn’t make sense to you, no problems, it’s a new world so come along and see what the future of the web could look like with server side (universal) rendering, and during development have hot reload, time travel and great IntelliSense using TypeScript in lightweight editors.
