3 Ways to Help Your Employees with Cybersecurity

One of the most important things you can do for your business is to protect it from cyber attacks. And of the most important ways to do so is through proper employee training. The reason for this is simple -- your employees are your frontline workers. If they aren't aware of best practices involved with cyber security, then you're leaving your business open to a lot of potential trouble. To that end, here are three tips I think you could use to help keep your employees on the right track.

Work Alongside Managed Service Providers

By working alongside a Managed Service Prvoider (MSP) such as MicroAge, you can rest easy knowing that all your technology needs will be looked after in the most professional manner. Services such as Helpdesk can provide an invaluable tool for your employees to utilize. A Helpdesk is like your very own personal call-in centre, which you can use as much as you like all for one monthly price. By providing your employees with an unlimited call-in centre for help, you're eliminating the need for them to google solutions in an attempt to MacGyver it themselves. This way, they are provided near-instant, professional help.

Keep Work and Personal Separate

We all love a good distraction every now and again -- even the strongest willed among us will eventually cave and click on that promising link, chasing the thrill of a cute cat video. There is nothing wrong with taking a break, so long as it is done so on personal devices. An effective way of mitigating risk to your business is to let your employees know that they are to keep separate their work and personal programs, websites, apps, etc. Now, most of the time, these private apps and websites are safe. But every so often, a virus manages to find its way into the heart of one of them, and if your employee is using it during work, there is always the possibility of that virus making its way into your systems. As such, it's best to keep it all separate. If this isn't an option for your workplace, at the very least have a firewall running to help block dangerous sites and attacks.

Clear Internet Browser History and Cache

This might be one of the most simple, and overlooked ideas out there. You should always try and clear your history and cache as frequently as you can. If you're not sure what these two are, a simple definition would be that they are a data log of all the information that computer has collected on the internet. This can be saved websites, passwords, usernames, files, etc. By clearing the history and cache from your system, you are deleting this information, and making it one more step harder for a hacker to get info they shouldn't.

If you're interested in learning more about cybersecurity, and what you can be doing to help minimize your risk to it, feel free to ask me any questions you may have. MicroAge can also come to your office and provide you and your team with a presentation about the risks associated with cybersecurity, and what you should be doing to keep them at bay.
