Access to the #internet did not turn out to be the productivity killer it was feared to be. On the contrary. It impacted us in every aspect of our lives. 🧠 It goes to show that today, we can hardly predict which consequences the acceleration of #AI will have. Hold on to today’s AI articles and read them in 2054. For sure, they will make you smile, just like this 1995 internet article will.

Ahead of tomorrow's keynote in my favourite capital city 🇫🇷 , I look back at what I heard yesterday, at the Financial Times session in Brussels on the #euaiact. I heard a call to "AI people" (who are they? where do they come from? ...) to apply for a role at the new #EU #AIoffice. What I heard was that the EU needs "a bunch of people with Phd's in AI 🎓 " and "a couple of managers to manage them". 🐑 I would like to make the case for more #diversity. Reading the announcement of 24/01/2024, I have the impression that the "Human Resources" will be mostly gathered from inside the Commissions existing offices. AI, and in particular the two missions of the EU AI Office (enforcement of AI act and stimulating AI innovation), requires a broad array of skills and experience (and not only policy or academic experience). 💎 I would like to make the case for more #focus. The scope of the office is ambitious but vast and vague at the same time. Where to start? 🌐 I would like to make the case for more #modesty. I wonder whether any central agency can ever enforce and (at the same time) stimulate a technology at this scale on its own. Just like (some forms of) AI itself, a booming AI in Europe will require vibrant distributed nodes with vibrant interconnectivity. 🌳 I would like to make the case for more #perspective. AI will be soon be part of everything (process, product, service, entertainment, maybe our bodies,...). So will we centrally "enforce" and "stimulate" ( 4️⃣ 2️⃣ life, the universe and...) everything? Excited to attend Financial Times #ftlive on the topic of #AI and #regulation with an opening speech of Vera Jourova. Good to hear that “the AI act is not the end of the story, we will continue to adapt”.

While researching for an #AI #roadmap project, I came across this interesting point of view of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) - so not your average opinion. They point out that #AI #bias is based on #human bias, not just on #biased #data. They state that most bias in data comes from a reflection of practices and realities where there is conscious or often even unconscious bias against race, gender, religion or any form of bias cocktail. It’s that time of the year… spending an on-line day with a class of very interactive professionally seasoned students in the Master of IT Governance and Assurance at Antwerp Management School. Although I prefer the classroom vibes, this session turned out to be quite energizing with a lot of bi-directional exchanges of experience. #goodluck to the #classof2024!
