Are workers being underestimated? The majority of U.S. professionals (58%) believe they have a wide range of skills that are being underutilized in their current roles, according to LinkedIn's latest Workforce Confidence survey. This sense of untapped potential is especially strong in certain fields: Nearly two-thirds of workers in the administrative and support services industry (65%) say they're being underutilized, along by 63% of those in retail and 62% of those in transportation. Education and oil, gas and mining follow, both at 60%. Even though the numbers suggest a mismatch between what workers can do and what their jobs actually require of them, some workers still aren't confident in how to overcome this and get ahead. The survey also found that professionals in the retail and transportation industries were less likely than Americans across other industries to say they understand the skills they need to reach the next step in their careers. Let us know in the comments: What advice would you give to someone who feels underutilized in their role — and how can they advocate for their abilities to reshape their role or career? ✍️: Taylor Borden 📊: Allie Lewis

You’re dead set against an idea—and someone on your team changes your mind. How? Former PGIM CEO David Hunt had one of those moments—and it involved puppies. We caught up with him in May, where he shared the story behind PGIM’s now-beloved “Puppy Playtime" at the Milken Institute Conference. “I was thinking yesterday as I held the puppy, if everybody had listened to me, I wouldn’t be doing that,” Hunt said. “Back your people and don’t enforce your view necessarily on what you think the right answer is.” Sometimes, the best leadership move is knowing when *not* to stand your ground. When’s the last time someone on your team changed your mind—and you were better for it? Drop a comment.

⏰ Got 60 seconds? That’s all you need to reset your entire day. According to Deepak Chopra MD (official) — world-renowned expert in well-being and alternative medicine — it only takes one mindful minute to find your center again. Here’s how you can get started: 🧠 Close your eyes and tune out the noise. Find a quiet spot if you can, and let yourself disconnect — even just for a moment. 🧠 Focus on your breath. Try the 4-4-8 technique: breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4, and exhale for 8. Let your breath anchor you. 🧠 Reconnect with the present. It’s easy to spiral into the past or future during a busy workday. Instead, gently guide your focus back to the here and now. Have you taken a moment today to recenter? What other quick strategies help you stay grounded? Share in the comments below! 👉 Want more tips from Deepak Chopra on how to stay focused when stress peaks? Many investors start by evaluating the founders. Yuechen Zhao starts by asking whether he can add value. That lens — shaped by years as an engineer, founder and product manager — is central to his investing philosophy at Informed Ventures, where he leads investments in patient-first digital healthcare and vertical AI. He joins Tanya Dua for VC Wednesdays this week. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eNPwJk7p
Sr. Technology Editor at LinkedIn covering AI | Conference Moderator & Speaker | Columbia Journalism Grad | Ex-Business Insider
🚨 A former engineer and product manager who honed his craft at companies including Google and Uber, Yuechen Zhao is now a partner at Informed Ventures. He joins us for VC Wednesdays.🚨 ✒️ What was your biggest lesson as a founder, engineer and product leader that’s helped with investing? I get asked by college students all the time whether they should still study engineering, and I always say yes. I value all the coding, math proofs and computer science algorithms I did, as they helped with critical thinking and how I approach problems. When I speak to a founder or a CTO, they know I speak their language and understand the concepts. But the biggest lesson was how difficult it is to be a founder. Whenever I talk to any founder, I try to be mindful that they’re dealing with hundreds of tough decisions a day. ✒️ What’s the No. 1 thing you look for in early-stage startups? When I come across a company, I don’t immediately reach out. I first ask myself: Is this the right deal for me? Can I add value? Will I bring anything to the conversation? If the answer is no — I don’t reach out. That wouldn’t be fair to them. Investing requires all the stars to align. It’s a space I need to know well, have a thesis on, understand the business model and the timing should be right. ✒️ Your areas of focus include digital health and AI powering vertical industries. Why? Of course, there’s value in horizontal AI products like ChatGPT, but when I think about long-term value creation, I’m more excited about vertical companies. They can go deep in one sector, and keep layering on solutions. An example is Akia, which uses AI to solve problems unique to hospitality and serves hotel owners and property managers. Another example is GigSafe, which helps employers of contractors with everything from compliance and insurance to payroll. And there is Venteur, which lets employers give workers a budget to buy their own health plan off the individual marketplace. It sits right at the intersection of patient access, personalization and health financing. ✒️ What’s one area within AI that feels overblown? Coding. There’s massive demand, and companies like Cursor are growing quickly. But it’s just too obvious, and is going to get commoditized fast — and bundled into broader offerings. Platforms like OpenAI and Anthropic are all going after it hard, which makes it tough for startups trying to stand out. Same goes for agentic AI. Everyone’s launching AI browsers and assistants. It's going to be a crowded space. ✒️What is your biggest pitching pet peeve? Treating investors like a commodity. I’ve had founders jump on a call and say, “I’ve got 30 minutes, here’s the pitch deck, here’s the data room and I’ve got to run.” That never goes anywhere. I want to build a relationship. If all you care about is whether I’ll give you a term sheet, I’m not the right fit. The biggest red flag is not caring who you’re pitching to. #VCWednesdays #vc #venturecapital #startups #TechonLinkedIn
