Moving the needle

Last week Wattpad surpassed 10M uploads.

Six years ago Ivan uploaded the very first story on Wattpad.  It took us 3 years to get to 300K uploads.  Then it only took us another 3 years to get to 10M.

Writers are now uploading 1 million times every month.  Given our current growth rates we’re only looking at another 3 years until we reach 129 million uploads (hopefully even faster). That’s our next target because according to the engineers working on the Google Books project that’s the total number of unique books that have been published worldwide since the advent of printing.

Growing from zero to 300K is one thing.  Growing from 300K to 10M another thing.  Growing to 129M is yet another thing.  There is no guarantee what worked for us in the past will work in the future.  DuckDuckGo’s Gabriel Weinberg wrote a great post on this topic so I am not going to repeat here.  What’s important is that we have to be super smart about what we need to change (and what we need to keep doing) while making sure the company vision, mission and core values remain intact.  That’s easier said than done but it also makes our journey in 2013 (and beyond) even more exciting.
