Be prepared

Whether you’re going for a short ride to your friend’s house or a long trek through the woods, it always pays to be prepared – avoid finding yourself with a long wet walk home. From what to wear to roadside repairs and what to do in an emergency.

Cycle routes

North Yorkshire has a multitude of fantastic places to ride your bike – whether it be with the family, with a club, on or off road or even just pedalling to work. Find out the best places to ride and start exploring and challenging yourself.

Cycle training

North Yorkshire County Council offers free Level 1 and 2 Bikeability courses to all Year 5 and 6 pupils via primary schools. Cycle training is an important life skill, most future driver's first experience of using the road is on a bicycle, so it's important they get into good habits straight away. Adult cycle courses are also available.

Family cycling

Children love cycling, it is fast and  gives them a sense of freedom and independence. There are many benefits to cycling as a family. It doesn’t take much preparation to get even the smallest member of the family on two wheels, whether that be on a seat or in a trailer, the earlier they start, the more enjoyment you can all have.

Anyone can start cycling. All you need is a bike and a sense of adventure. Cycling is not only a great way to travel, it helps you keep fit too – so read our tips to help you to get started and keep safe. A bike is a great investment; cycling regularly and replacing car journeys with a bike ride can help you get fit, lose weight and save money.
