New design guidelines will help shape improvements to streets, public spaces and buildings in the Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan area

SILVER SPRING, MDThe Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, has completed a working draft of the Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan Design Guidelines for review.

View the draft of the Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan Design Guidelines.

These guidelines build on the recommendations in the Greater Lyttonsville Sector Plan, which was approved and adopted in 2017. They will provide a framework for the design of new and improved streetscapes, buildings, parks and open spaces in the plan area. Addressing both private developments and public improvements, the design guidelines will help ensure that new buildings and public spaces complement and enhance the neighborhood.

The guidelines will show specific ways of achieving design goals and will provide the Planning Board, community groups, developers and local organizations with a clear and consistent framework for generating and reviewing projects.

Community members are invited to learn more about the guidelines on Wednesday, February 20 during drop-in hours from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m at the Gwendolyn E. Coffield Community Center (2450 Lyttonsville Road, Silver Spring, MD). Staff planners will be available to answer questions and share more information. RSVP to laura.shipman@montgomeryplanning.org with the time you plan to attend.

Next, Montgomery Planning staff will hold a public work session with the Planning Board on the design guidelines, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 21. The Planning Board will review and refine the guidelines before the document is finalized. The confirmed meeting date will be posted on the project website and the Planning Board agendas website.
