Soul Electronics unveiled its new Combat line of headphones today at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and the New York Jets' Tim Tebow is credited with the inspiration and design of the new line. Here's a Q&A with Soul's product ambassador.
Q: How do you have time to do this? You’re so busy between football and then in the off-season you still have to work out. How do you fit this in?
A: It is tough. Having the right priorities definitely helps, and I have great partners. Soul has been a great partner.
Q: It’s a crowded headphones market. How do you think yours are going to stand out?
A: We’ll let people try them out; hopefully they will believe in them. I think for athletes, for people that work out, that are gonna train, we have something for them. For someone that is flying a lot that needs that noise cancellation, that needs something comfortable that they can listen to music, that they can sleep with, we got a pair for them. For the mom that is doing a few more extra dishes, and she wants to be comfortable but still listen to her gospel, country, to whatever she wants, we have something for them. I think that’s what’s great about it is whoever you are, whatever you are doing, there’s something that’s gonna fit you, and that’s something we’re really excited about.
Q: Have you always been into technology?
A: I haven’t necessarily always been into technology, but I’ve always been into music — not that I can sing or anything. But I do like listening to music, especially as an athlete. Music is very powerful; it’s inspirational; it’s moving, and before a game, it can really put you in that mindset to go and play your best, and we wanted to come up with something that could help us do that. So we came up with this Combat model, and we really believe in it.
Q: How did you contribute with the design of the headphones?
A: Well, I wanted something that was gonna, No. 1, be comfortable, No. 2 it was gonna be stable when I’m exercising, when I’m working out, and so we came up with these Combat models, and I think when you go out there and you’re working out and you’re training, I think people are really gonna enjoy it.
Q: Super Bowl prediction?
A: Good question. I’ll wait until I know who’s in it.
Q: Pandora or Spotify?
A: Whichever one is playing my favorite song.
Q: One of your headphones is named after the Jets. Do you wish you’d had more of a chance to show Jets fans what you can do this year?
A: I think it’s also named the Jet because it’s the executive line, so it’s for people that are flying in jets and flying across the country and need something that is comfortable, and I think it works.
Q: How does religion help you to inspire these headphones?
A: I think religion and my relationship with Christ, that inspires everything I do. It inspires who I am and the makeup in my DNA. So I think that’s involved in everything I do from on the field to the Tim Tebow Foundation to these headphones, and it’s in everything I do and everything I am.
Q: Did you give out some of these to your friends and family for Christmas?
A: I did. I did, and they’ve enjoyed it.
Q: Would you come back to CES 2014?
A: Maybe. It has been a lot of fun for me, and I got to meet a lot of great people and see a lot of awesome stuff, so it’s something I’ve really enjoyed.
Q: Wait, won’t you be in the playoffs next year?
A: Yes, sir.
Q: What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen?
A: There’s been a lot of cool stuff, and a lot of crazy stuff — like a fork that helps you lose weight. There’s a lot of interesting things.
Q: What’s on your pregame playlist?
A: Good question. I’m a little bit different than most people. Most people are probably a little bit more upbeat, you know they like their rock, their rap, their intense music. But I don’t really have a problem getting hyped up or amped up for a game, so I listen to music that really calms me down — whether that’s Christian, gospel, country, Frank Sinatra, a mix, Last of the Mohicans, Braveheart. I have a mix. I like it; it keeps me calm, kinda calm before the storm if you will.
In the spirit of Venice, The Venetian is a little piece of romantic Italy right here in Las Vegas. The Venetian is an "all-suite" hotel, with rooms accented with plush linens and Italian marble. The flagship of Venetian nightlife is TAO, an ultra-hip nightclub located inside of TAO Asian Bistro. V Bar is The Venetian's super smooth ultra lounge, made by the owners of New York City's club Lotus and Los Angeles' super swank Sunset Room.
The Venetian features 19 restaurants including Thomas Keller's award-winning French restaurant Bouchon, Mario Batali's B&B Ristorante, Aquaknox for fresh seafood and the 42,000 square foot TAO Asian Bistro. There's also the food court inside the Canal Shoppes for those looking for a quick bite.
Guests can float along The Grand Canal Shops in an authentic Italian gondola ride and pass stores like Burberry and Kenneth Cole along the way. And if you haven't caught a real celeb, on the street in Vegas, you can head over to Madame Tussauds to check out a wax version.
