The Federal Trade Commission announced a $25,000 contest to boost the security of household internet-connected devices.

Consumer devices on the so-called internet of things (IoT) have notoriously weak security, which can be dangerous to user privacy or allow them to be used in other cyberattacks.

{mosads}The IoT Home Inspector Challenge will award a $25,000 grand prize and three $3,000 honorable mention prizes for tools “that would address security vulnerabilities caused by out-of-date software in IoT devices.”

The contest will accept entries until May 22. Winners will be announced two months later.
