FAKE MONEY: Mun shows the counterfeit RM100 note.

MIRI: Miri police chief ACP Mun Kock Keong yesterday called a brief press conference on the presence of counterfeit RM100 banknotes circulating here.

“Last week we received three reports lodged on the counterfeit banknotes — two reports were lodged at Miri Central Police Station (CPS) and one at Lutong Police Station,” he told the media.

He said one report was made by a bank and the other two by grocers who found the notes to be fake due to the poor paper quality and lack of security features.

“Based on our initial investigation, all the three fake notes have the same serial number, AA7825588,” he said.

He thus warned members of the public, especially grocers, to be extra cautious when receiving new RM100 notes.

“They can check the quality of the paper by touching it because the new notes will not wrinkle easily compared to poor quality paper. If unsure, please refer to the nearest Bank Negara office,” he said.
