(Memphis) A Memphis Police officer is suspended with pay while the department investigates claims he abused his girlfriend.

Samuel Hearn is charged with Domestic Assault after allegedly getting into a fight with his girlfriend.

The victim called police early Friday morning to tell them Hearn put his hands around her throat and threw her to the ground while they were having an argument.

Police saw red marks around her neck and arrested the off duty officer, but News Channel 3 started digging and found Hearn’s name has been in the news before.

The victim or accused were not available for comment at the Greenbrook Apartments Saturday.

That apartment is the scene of a crime Memphis Police say involved one of their officers.

Officer Hearn has been accused of being violent before.

According to court documents he was one of eight people to be named in a lawsuit by Jarrell Williams against the city.

Video captured on a cell phone shows Williams being forcefully arrested by police.

Williams says Hearn and the other officers unnecessarily beat him excessively on Beale Street in October.

“He lunged at me like ‘come on’. I went down to the ground and put my hands out to show them I wasn’t resisting,” said Hearn.

Officer Hearn is out of jail and will be in court Monday morning.
