About the Elf: Before we go on about Karine Vanasse, it should be said that at the moment she's having a very particular kind of predicament on the set of Pan Am: "I'm about to shoot a scene with a young boy who falls in love with my character," she says. "Tonight he's about to kiss me, and I'm about to slap him." Which is the kind of problem Vanasse should be used to by now. After all, she looks like this. And even though we Americans may barely know her, the 28-year-old French-Canadian has been acting since the age of 11, has coproduced and starred in an award-winning feature film, and, perhaps most importantly, even did some overdub work for the French-Canadian version of South Park. On Pan Am, Vanasse plays French stewardess Colette Valois. "She's described as ... sort of sexy ... sort of ... not sexy ... but flirtatious a little bit." We'd go with sexy. —Mark Mikin
