Samsung Filing Makes Galaxy Note 9 Official

This article is more than 5 years old.

The Galaxy Note 9 is going to anger some people and with good reason. But it also hides some well-considered upgrades and now Samsung accidentally confirmed the Galaxy Note 9 in the US for the first time…

Credit for the spot goes to PhoneArena, as well as Samsung and the FCC since the former’s unusually early submission date (April 20th) means the latter’s embargo has dropped and it is now available for all to see. Oops!

The FCC application confirms the applicant as Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd as well as the Galaxy Note 9’s model number: SM-N960F, the expected jump from the Galaxy Note 8’s SM-N950F.

Interestingly, the FCC has also certified a dual sim model (the ‘SM-N960F/DS’) which implies Samsung could bring this popular offshoot Stateside for the first time. But dig deeper and the FCC has also approved the ‘SM-N960X’, which is typically an Asian-only variant. So, while hope remains, there’s every chance Samsung is simply submitting these additional models to cover its bases.

Meanwhile, FCC submission doesn’t give away any Galaxy Note 9 specs but they aren’t needed.

We already know the new Galaxy will have an even bigger display, a greatly enlarged battery, a lot more RAM, class leading storage (in some regions) and hopes are high of an overdue camera upgrade.

Furthermore, what the FCC submission ties in with is consistent information that the Galaxy Note 9 will launch early.

Why? Because Samsung has bigger priorities. Leaks about the Galaxy S10 show it will be a far more dramatic upgrade while the company’s real star of 2019 is a genuine game-changer but it will come at a very high price
