Venue: Hylands House, Chelmsford, Essex. CM2 8WQ

It’s that time of year again….the Annual ICE Sharing Day and we're excited to invite you back to Hylands House.

Our theme this year is 'Legal' and we know that people with learning disabilities may need extra support with understanding and knowing their rights, understanding written and spoken information and explaining their thoughts and actions. We also know that human rights are at the very core of Person Centred Planning, and that we should be enabling people with learning disabilities to make as many of their own decisions as possible alongside access to the same opportunities.

With this in mind, we have some excellent speakers lined up who will talk about their own experiences.

These include Essex County Council's Behaviour Advice Team who will provide case studies in relation to the Mental Capacity Act and how it has supported people with learning disabilities to effect positive change within their own lives. You will also get the chance to hear from HPFT's Clinical Director for learning Disabilities as well from the Essex Community Offending Behaviour Service who will share their knowledge and experience of suporting people with Autism and/or learning disabilities to navigate the criminal justice system.

Andrew Whitehouse will also be attending to share his own experiences and stories of the legal consequences that have faced others owing to mental health issues.

Importantly, there will also be the chance to listen to powerful and positive stories from people with lived experience, where despite legal challenges, there has been a better outcome.

The Autism Reality Experience and Virtual Dementia Tour are always very popular and available to book this year to experience what it might be like to have autism or dementia. There will also be a variety of stalls where you can find out about some of the latest communication aids from leading AAC suppliers.

As ever, the Sharing Day will provide an opportunity for you to meet with professionals from a range of specialisms and talk to families and carers who may also be facing difficulties. What makes Sharing Day special is sharing your ideas, stories and experiences and listening to others do the same.

The ICE team will also be available all day to show our resources, give advice and share success stories.

As always Sharing Day is free to attend, but you do need to book your place, so that we know to expect you.

We understand that circumstances can change, so if you can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible. If there is enough interest we may be able to offer a live stream of the event.

Professionals who fail to attend but don't cancel will incur a £75 non-attendance fee.
