Rep. Kildee said on MSNBC, “I have seen a lot of things with this president for the first I have seen people give victory laps. This is the first time I have seen somebody going to the Rose Garden and take a defeat lap. He basically lost everything. I hope the lesson that this president learns. You can’t close the government down. You can’t shut the government down as leverage and be unwilling to submit this to the legislative process. We suggested this in December. Lindsey Graham suggested this same thing, why the president had to put the country through so much pain, 800,000 people through so much agony to come back to this very point proves that and frankly, he’s unfit to do the job he’s elected to do.”

Trump’s Rose Garden rant was an effort to disguise his total defeat.

Trump tried to sell his cave as a deal:

Trump also claimed that he never said that America needs a wall:

The speech was a defeat lap, and after giving his remarks, Trump took no questions from reporters. Democrats gave Trump nothing to end the shutdown. Democrats aren’t going to give Trump his wall in conference committee. The wall is not happening, but Trump continues to try to walk the line between feeding the wall delusion that he created and spinning his crushing defeat.

Trump took a defeat lap today and what he doesn’t realize is that even bigger defeats are yet to come.
