Toybox: Cake stands

After Alessandro Mendini's Anna Gong folding cake stand launched in 2011, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders offers his own interpretation. Inspired by the circus, Fatman (HK$3,470) resembles the colourful ruffled collar of a clown when closed and can be unlocked to reveal a three-plate food stand. In stainless steel with water-based transfers.

From the Latitude collection, this silver-plated stand by the French brand comes with 12 small dishes for finger food. It has a simple contemporary design and the frame is shaped like a bird cage with the dishes pointing in different directions on different levels. Available at Heather & March (HK$5,740).

Known for its functional yet playful designs, the Toronto-based brand has created food stands (HK$1,050) with a decorative base in three styles - horse, rabbit and duck. These ceramic plates are a pretty way to serve confections and can stand alone as decorative items. Placed together they create a tier. Available at K11 Design Store.
