Sarasota Orchestra Masterworks: Ohlsson Plays Rachmaninoff

The orchestra launches into 2022 with a concert featuring master pianist Garrick Ohlsson and led by conductor David Alan Miller at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. Bubble Festival

Also a bit out of the ordinary is this show filled with art, science and magic. The courtyard at The Bazaar on Apricot & Lime is the setting for Spheres Bubble Show, headed by “bubble phenom” Blaise Rynes, who appeared on season 13 of America’s Got Talent. Ringling College Art Galleries

New shows for the new year on the art and design college campus. Among them: works by Tom and Peggy Root in the Patricia Thompson +Skylight Galleries; Ligature XI in the Willis Smith Gallery; A Few of Our Favorite Things in the Richard and Barbara Basch Gallery; and art by Therman Statom in the Lois and David Stulberg Gallery. People of the Book: Dave Barry and Alan Zweibel

Rainforest Masks of Costa Rica

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens once against hosts this exhibition and sale showcase, featuring hundreds of hand-carved and painted balsa wood masks from artists of the Indigenous Boruca tribe of southwestern Costa Rica. During the opening weekend, Jan. 8 and 9, there's also a pop-up shop in Selby's Museum of Botany & the Arts offering jewelry and smaller masks for sale. For more info, visit selby.org.

Sarasota Concert Association Music Matinees

Also kicking off the new year musically will be this free concert series, taking place at noon in the David Cohen Hall of the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center.
