A company is helping the environment as the national UK distributer for a 100 percent recyclable cup.

Magenta UK, which is based on Manners Industrial Estate in Ilkeston, developed the cup - which aims to cut down on the waste produced by regular paper coffee cups by being completely recyclable.

The recyclable cup is made with 40 percent less plastic lining than standard coffee cups, which eliminates the need for materials to be separated in order to be recycled, and makes helping the environment much easier.

The innovative new design can go through a standard cardboard and paper recycling plant as the lining breaks up like tissue during the recycling process, while the cups are also all made in the British Isles.

Internal Sales & Marketing Manager at Magenta UK, Oliver Lloyd, said: “Magenta UK is really excited to be a national UK distributor of the 100 percent Recyclable Cup.

Magenta UK's recyclable cups
Internal Sales & Marketing Manager at Magenta UK, Oliver Lloyd said the cups are "much better to recycle.”

“It’s the first commercially available 100 percent recyclable paper cup on the market and, unlike existing standard paper cups, they can go through traditional paper recycling throughout the UK allowing the material to be recycled up to 7 times, really great news for the environment.”

He continued: “These cups are even better than other alternative compostable cups, as compostable cups have a PLA lining which requires commercial composting bins and collection service which is not readily available throughout the UK, whereas existing recycling bins & services are readily available.

“If a compostable cup goes into a general waste or recycling the cup most likely goes to landfill and won’t compost down, much better to recycle.”

The cups currently come in 8oz and 12oz sizes with no minimum order and are available in full colour designs to match each business's individual needs.
